Unrefined vs Refined Shea Butter

Unrefined Shea Butter
Shea butter is obtained from the nuts of the African shea tree. Unrefined shea butter does not undergo a refining or bleaching process so impurities may remain alongside having a strong sweet, nutty aroma. Due to being unrefined, the shea butter is free of harmful chemicals, remaining completely natural.  We use 100% raw, unrefined shea butter.
Refined Shea Butter
Contrary, shea butter that's white or off white in color is the result of undergoing a refinement process. The process not only removes the strong color, and natural aroma but also results in the loss of nutrients. The removal of nutrients may also result in the need for additional chemicals and/or preservatives. Therefore, we choose to use unrefined shea butter in order to take advantage of all the natural properties shea butter has to offer.

We leave out the harmful ingredients.
